And...the best tasting American Pilsner still is....

Victory Prima Pils. *It* should be the standard that all others are measured by.

First Pilsner I drank *after* dinner just to get all of that glorious flavor all by its little lonesome. At a bar and steak joint in New Jersey, no less. Amazingly good in bottled form this time; almost perfume-like in its intensity.

Oh, Guess

I just had some sent to me, my first tasting of it in over 2 years. I have to say I found it unbalanced. The concept of a pilsner that is extra hopped is a good one but I think its just a bit too far. Also got to try the new version of the Victory All Malt lager, and its definitely not as good, but still a very drinkable beer.

That's what I thought originally, for the first two years or so, actually. Then someone at Victory pointed out that they were aiming at something like Jever, and suddenly it all made sense.

I'd say "separate but equal." I miss the Export-style lager, but the new helles-style is like Munich water, delicious and quick to 'evaporate' in your glass. This is big-glass beer.

I sure can't think of a better American pils.

Even then, it's still quite a bit out there in terms of hoppiness. Probably neck-and-neck in terms of dryness, but Prima seems to me to have much more overt hoppiness. Not that this is a bad thing, by any means. Although, it does put a dent in the argument that it should be considered the quintessential American pils.

Any of you guys tried a New Zealand beer called Montheiths? They make a very nice Pilsner. They were selling it at my local Trader Joes.

Yea...I meant to reply to lew and never did: If they were aiming for Jever they overshot!

True, but it's a lot closer to Jever than it is to Staropramen!
