Another Reason To Move Out Of Ohio - Beer Tax Considered To Pay For Safety Officers' Overtime

Ohio college towns where students tend to party a little too hearty are looking at ways to defray the costs of keeping them in check.

One idea is a four-cents-a-bottle beer tax to pay for safety-force overtime.

In Columbus, overtime to safety forces for last year's Ohio State-Michigan game topped half a million dollars.

A lawmaker from northeast Ohio is considering introducing a bill that would allow voters to decide whether they want the added tax.

Other options include an entertainment tax or higher fees for liquor licenses.

Think of it as a user fee for those who booze it up so much they require special attention. For those who want to tear up the town after tearing down the goal post.

I like the beer tax, although it should be expanded to cover all alcoholic beverages sold in a container.
