Battle of 2 Pilsners

Hi all,

I just got my latest beer of the month shipment and it includes 2 Pilsners(6 bottles total), one from Brooklyn Brewery from, umm, Brooklyn NY and the other is Market Street Pilsner from Bohannon Brewing, Nashville, TN.

Any bets on which one I prefer and.....if you've had both, which one do you prefer?

Best regards, Bill

PS: It's been a little slow here lately....

Perononally, as far as Piseners are concerned, I usually go for the classics, like Budweiser or Coors. Both of which are fine Pilsenars. Now as for the premium import falvors, I usually like a nice cold Kellians, now THAT is a good import.

Haven't had the one from Bohannon, but I could probably put good odds on the Brooklyn Pilsner being the better of the two.

Ya mean "as in or having to do with the Argentinean dictator, Peron?"

NO! Budweiser is a "Pisener", Coors is a "Pilsenar". Get it straight- one uses rice, the other Rocky Mountain water.

Now

Kellians does have premium import falvors, alright. Ever had Killians, the Irish beer imported from Colorado? Very similar falvor.

Forgive me for responding to a dyslexic troll...

I haven't tried Cole Porter Stout, but I'm otherwise in complete agreement with this post.

Staropramen is lovely stuff!

Well, I found I liked the Brooklyn better but it isn't very exciting. The Market Street tastes very grainy to me and that's not a good thing. Thank goodness I still had some Pine Mountain Pils in the fridge. Btw, the other 2 beers included in the twelver are Brooklyn East India and Bohannon Nut Brown. A big yay for the IPA and a not too shabby for the Nut Brown; that was a pleasant surprise.

The only time I've had Staro was when I bought a 5L party can from overseas. It really is superb.

Brooklyn's bottled stuff is invariably pretty good. I do think the pils has slipped, and I think the Brown's decent, though I know a couple people who think it's great. IPA was pretty typical, IIRC, not bad, not great. The Brooklyn Ale (formerly known as Pennant Pale Ale) is one of the beers that turned me into a beer geek, but it just doesn't have the appeal it used to since I became one of those evil people who fell in love with over-the-top IPAs (a hop nazi, if you will). The Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout is well beyond pretty good and its release is one of the highlights of my Beer Winter.

If they'd just bottle their weiss and wit, now them's some good stuff. They do wheat styles well, just haven't started bottling them yet.

Yep, I bought various stuff (Lager, Brown, IPA, Pennant) online, what, 2 years ago? from a source that wasn't particulary concerned with freshness ie I bought some Ballantine Twisted Red Ale from them. I mentioned it here and was informed that the brew was discontinued like a couple of years prior. All of the Brooklyns were past their best by dates but I was impressed cause they still tasted good to me.

I do think the pils

So is that it? Our palates have changed so much that our "golden oldies" no longer are able to satisfy us or are people messin with the formulae?

The Brooklyn Black

I've got to try that one.

I didn't know about them. Hmm...Brooklyn does have it going on. ;^)

My statments regarding my prefernces for beer are no more a troll than your constant "Ooooh...look at me...I just bought THIS beer - and Hey everybody! I just tried THIS OTHER beer!" If you don't like it, don't read my posts.

But . . . but . . . if we don't read your posts, then we can't come on here and say "drink some real beer, you freakin' moron". Stuff like that.

$3.99 for Staropramen? Damn. Think I pay about double that 'round DC. Our TJ's don't carry it.

That sucks. That's what they charge from Czech(Bud)var at mine. TJs is weird. You would think they would carry more or less the same goods in all their stores, but even within SD I can find some beers sold at on store but not at another. At the one close to my house they have been carrying Dogfish IPA, which I learned about on this list and now buy all the time, as well as Sonoma IPA which is a nice beer.

Where exactly was I bragging? Just stating personal preference.

Banal? Your opinion. You like Rocky Road, I like Vanilla.

Must I? No...but it is kind of funny to see all you fancy pants beer drinkers geting your panties up in a bunch because someone displayed a preference that runs counter to yours.

Oh, and it's "elicit" - not "illicit."

Regard!

No, no, if you learn there's more to life than mass-produced beer, then you'll no longer fulfill the important function of clueless newbie. Without the clueless newbie, it's just not a family anymore.

No problem. Post your address here in the forum and I'm sure people will be willing to send you all sorts of things. Some of them possibly even beer.

What's a "base" of my favorite beer?

What's your opinion of King Lager?

How about if I just give you a recommendation and you find it for yourself? Steinlager. A true premium import and it is the world's best lager. Doubt me not cause it says so on the label. HTH.

Woah! Hold on there, no need to insult vanilla ice cream through bad analogies. There are plenty here who like vanilla. Thing is, they tend to prefer the variety made from cream, sugar, egg yolks and vanilla rather than one of the ones made from 80 chemicals with names I can't pronounce.

For one, I don't post posts like that. Ever. Second, your citing of Coors, Bud, etc. appears not to flow from the conversation, but as some sort of provocation based on discussion of other beers.

Already there.
