Beer budget-chat for Phil Kallas and other money-challenged rsfckers

When you're on a serious money-crunch budget, and when you need to get a pack of two-four, would it seem to be hard to turn down a sixer of Icehouse (5.5% content) for 4 bucks, tax included?

Un/underemployment is freaking stressful. I've got a position for the moment, but I'm still sweating every day. And if I'm sweating, then it's almost impossible for me not to drink beer at the very least on every fourth day.

This being the fourth day from last Sunday (when last I guzzled), I got myself some Icehouse for 4 bucks.

I mean, for crying out loud, it's 4.50 for shitty ass weak dicked Busch or Miller, and 4.50 even for Hipster-cred Old Style or Pabst. For whatever reason, at least in Chicago, Icehouse seems to be at least 50 cents to a dollar cheaper than other beers of its ilk.

Oh, and the Red Wings got a clutch win tonight. It's about time Datsyuk and Zetterberg did something in this series. Maybe it had something to do with Coach Lewis getting the Hull-Dats-Zets line into a good rhythm. They were DOMINATE (or, as Ted Smith would say, "Criminal-dominate") tonight.

For me personally, I almost always go for quality over quantity. If I had four bucks to spend on beer, I'd buy a single bottle of some ale or other and actually enjoy it.

This may be the POTY, but unfortunately it was drunk and not pre-drunk. Anybody can say something stupid when drunk.

When I was in college, I regularly bought beer at Trader Joe's. They usually had one or two good Czech pilsners at $3.99 a sixer -- a deal whose awesomeness can't be overstated. TJ's also usually had a few drinkable though nondescript German lagers at the same price. And several Spaten beers (including my favorite, Optimator) for $5.99 for six.

The best bang for your buck USED to be at Foremost on Ashland and Wellington. They had Coors Light Silver Bullet packs mispriced for

6.99..instead of 9.99. 18 crud beers for less than 8 with Tax..not too bad..

Mr Chen : "oh you always like the Silver Bullet I see!..why you buy no more?"

Me: "..cuz it is not 'on sale'..make it 6.99 and i will buy it."

Mr Chen: "oh..it is 9.99!" .
