A co-worker said he purchased one of those do-iit-yourself beer makers. I can't figure out why someone would go through that trouble and expense when you can just run to the 7-11 and pick up a six-pack...

Like with almost anything some consider beermaking a hobby/art/craft. There are beer contests, beer festivals - even grants relating to beer. Just got finished finding information for someone that included information about a beer competition in the Western U.S and its a very big deal! You should see the posts that are on the Usenet groups having to do with brewing beer - a lot of people are doing it!

Why would I want to make a table when I can go to the furniture store and buy one?
Why would I want to cook dinner when I can just go out?
