Bells Batch 8000 Ale

If you like Chimay, give Bells Batch 8000 a try. It's a Wheat Ale with 9% alc. At less than $40 a case, you can't beat it. Unfortunately, it will never be brewed again.

You also forgot to mention that it has nothing in common with any of the Chimay beers. It's more of an Imperial Witbier.

"If you like Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, give Bell's Batch 8000 a try!" would make as much sense.

Imperial Witbier????

Oh God! The brewery calls it a Belgian Strong Ale, and that's exactly what it is. In fact, it is more Belgian smelling than any Belgian beer I can imagine; they even managed to make the caramel smell and taste like Belgian waffles. In fact, it's pretty amazing.

doesn't Chimay White have a noticeable wheat character?

(great description, Joris!)

the 'commercial description' on ratebeer has this "Editor's Note. 9% is far above the abv range of a Belgian Wit Bier. Because we do not have the style "Imperial/Double Belgian Wit", this more closely fits as a Belgian Strong Ale."

but why not simply create a new style name? - I'd plump for "Belgian Tripel Witbier" as (I presume?) the beer style term 'Imperial' stems from the Brit Empire's tradition of sending out strong stout, not from Belgium.

Just a thought. The beer sounds v. interesting though - I doubt whether they have any plans to send any over here to lil old England? cheers MikeMcG
