Boulder

Drove to Boulder over Easter.

Went to BJ's brewhouse. Their IPA is really good, but the food was like a Friday's or Bennigan's type generica blah.

Walked down Pearl street to the Mountain Sun brewery. I swear everyone in there was high. The guy serving us, the patrons, the brewers. It stank of patchouli and unwashed hippies dashed dreams of a better world. The beer was not good. I suppose this is what happens when you are struck with the munchies in the middle of a brew session. The beer was like beginner homebrew. Cloudy, mucky, adhering to no particular style and full of off flavors. The IPA was not hoppy but had some harsh (dude...HARSH) grainy flavor. The doppelbock was not malty but jarringly alcoholic and phenolic! The hefe looked okay but it's supposed to be cloudy. They had a WIDE range of 'styles' on tap but of the ones I tried it seemed to me they should put down the bong long enough to master a few basics. I won't be back until they report a massive pot shortage in the Boulder area.

That's too bad. I have to admit I don't mind the Mountain Sun, but mainly because of the food. The beer is definitely hit-or-miss. I'm biased because I have lived in Boulder for 10 years, but you should also try anything by Twisted Pine -- in my opinion they have mastered the basics.
