Cans With Caps Just Like on Bottles

I can remember as a child (early 1940s) seeing beer cans that had a pointed top onto which a cap just like those on a bottle was fastened. I'm curious as to whether such tops were on most brands or were something just on a few brands. And, when were they introduced and when were they discontinued?

They are known as "cone top" beer cans. A Google search will turn up lots of info and pictures (like this site-

), now that you know what to look for.
