Chimay Blue

I bought 2 sets of Chimay with the glass from Majestic. 2x Red, 2x White, 2x Blue. The blue is a class act. The BBE is 2007 in the batch and it was not aged. I really think the alcohol is mellow in 9% blue for a trappist, I could also detect some juniper berries and notes of Phenol. The beer is very smooth, with bitterness to counteract the malt, which could become over powering. The head is large, but quickly subsides to form a lasting shallow head. Pretty good is my experience so far, I look forward to trying the red later.

Especially this year. This is the 20th anniversary of Chimay's importation into the USA, and there's a nifty special-edition Chimay chalice if you're lucky. I have one, of course.

I have the 500th anniversary chalice (rimmed in gold, with a gold drawing of the monastery on it) which I bring out on very rare occasions. Of course, I used to have TWO, until a certain fumble-fingered wife . . .

Needless to say, she doesn't get to touch this one.

I still have two of those, too.

You ain't lettin' her near mine, neither, buckaroo.

The new one I have looks familiar - white Chimay logo with maroon rim - but also has the old-fashioned Chimay "Peres Trappistes" shield on the other side of the glass. Shoulda taken two, I guess.
