Christian Moerlein Bockfest Kickoff

Celebrating the 75th anniversary of the repeal of prohibition and kicking off the bock beer season, Moerlein Emancipator Doppelbock was greeted with rave reviews from all in attendance at the ceremonial first tapping this past Thursday evening. What a fun crowd and great party! Thank You!

Three fun events to tell you about below (Pre-Bockfest Poster Signing, Bockfest Blow and Monte Carlo Benefit):

This year's Bockfest Poster signing will occur on Friday at Kaldi’s Café on Main St., 1204 Main St., Cincinnati, Ohio 45202. The event will take place from 3 to 6:30PM with artist Jim Effler who creates the original oil paintings that become the annual Bockfest Poster. Mr. Effler will be at Kaldi’s to sign posters and also have the original oil painting of the poster on display, along with other original oils that have become past Bockfest posters or brand-art for Christian Moerlein beers (including Moerlein Emancipator). Bockfest posters from past years will also be available. Special Moerlein Happy Hour drink prices will be offered by Kaldi’s throughout the signing.

NOT FAMILIAR WITH THE BOCKFEST BLOW? The Bockfest Blow has become an annual event where a “gaffer” (A "gaffer" is a glass artist) uses molten glass to form the grand-prize for best entry in the Bockfest Parade. These are one of a kind priceless art pieces being made in front of your eyes. This year's Bockfest Blow will occur on this Friday February 15, 2008 at River City Works, the Art Academy's glass art campus, beginning at 6:30 p.m. River City Works is located in the Pendleton Arts District, at 532 East 12th St., Cincinnati. Art Academy students will make the glass stein under the direction of Main Gaffer and Art Academy professor, Warren Trefz. The public is invited to watch and Admission is free. There is a limited amount of parking adjacent to the building as well as on the street. The blow will last until roughly 9:30PM. The event is sponsored by Arnold’s Bar and Grill. Free food and beer specials will follow the blow at Arnold’s, 210 E.

8th St., Cincinnati, Ohio 45202 (513) 421-6342.

Bockfest is a celebration of bock beer, the Renaissance, Cincinnati brewing history, Over-the-Rhine and the coming of Spring. Over-the-Rhine is known for its significant architecture and its bohemian arts scene as well as the birthplace of German-American culture in Cincinnati. Bockfest has been an occasion to showcase parts of this proud tradition. The Bockfest parade trophy created by River City works is one example. Mr. Effler’s artwork is another. Events and entertainment will occur throughout Bock Fest weekend, March 7-9, 2008. Yes, I just purchased a case of Moerlein Emancipator Doppelbock. It is outstanding. Can't wait to try it on tap at Bockfest. The Moerlein seasonals have all been great. It's just too bad distribution is limited to the greater Cincinnati area.
