another negative piece about micros. Why do mainstream journalists love to hear and write negative things about craft brewers?

Gee, Lew -- how many megabucks do Molson, Labatt and others spend on advertisements in the Sun? How many bucks do the craft breweries and brewpubs spend?

If you _could_ get the data you'd probably have your answer.

All part of the corporate-controlled, media-driven dumbing down of the consumer.

Or maybe I'm just spouting stupid conspiracy theory.

But it's just my opinion and, ya know, I could be right!

Well....this is one consumer that will never, and I do mean NEVER, EVER dumby down. In fact, just the opposite is a cert.

No, you wouldn't. Newspaper editorial staffs avoid interference from the ad side as much as possible. When I was a reporter, one of the surest ways to get me pissed off was to ask me to slant a story because someone advertised with us. Any other reporter or editor I know of felt and reacted the same way. And the resistance gets stronger the larger a paper you get to.

Lew hit on exactly what happened: the copy editor who wrote the headline didn't bother reading the story. Happens all the time. One of the other ways to get me pissed off was to put an inaccurate headline on my story. Sadly, that happened far more frequently than it ever should.

What do you think the black helicopters are for? They're flying from one media outlet to the next, telling them how to report.

Dead on; the bigger ones are downright prissy about it. (Magazines, that's a different story, for a number of reasons.)

Bingo again. Drives ya nuts.

*sneaks in a hug for Bill*

My husband and I got new bumperstickers last week... "NOT fooled by the media" and "NOT fooled by the government".

Hehe..thanks for that warm fuzzy feeling.(The hug) Have you tried any of the Alesmith beers? I just ordered some of their IPA and.....10 bottles of Stone's Ruination and

2 bottles of Stone's 7th Anniversary.

Best regards, Bill

I am warm fuzzy woman extraordinaire.

Stone's... YESYESYES!!! Of course I lean heavily toward the Arrogant Bastard, but the others you've listed I've sampled as well. I preferred the Ruination over the 7th Anniversary, something just wasn't up my alley with the complexities of the 7th. I'm not sure what the flavor was that I didn't care for.

Haven't heard of Alesmith before, I'll have to keep my eyes peeled!

Alesmith are another San Diego brewery, and a quite nice one. People who think Stone are the shiznit might not be quite as enamored by Alesmith, since they're not as over-the-top, look-at-how-many-hops-we-can-use as Stone. As a result, I like them better. Better balanced, more interesting beers, from my perspective.

Forgot to add, Alesmith beers are still quite hoppy. I justthink they're more well-rounded compared to Stone.

If you live anywhere near San Diego just pop down to O'Brien's pub on Convoy St. and you'll have all the Stone and Alesmith you want on draft (some on cask) as well as a hell of a lot of other great local beers like Alpine Exponential Hoppiness -- also some temporarily extinct Rusiian River if there's any left after today.

Great Belgian bottle selection as well.
