DFH 90 minute IPA

I'm obviously not the first person to be posting about dogfish head IPA, but I went to the liqour store today (my girlfriend felt like Mike's hard ice tea, which they didn't have) and was thrilled to find that they now have dogfish head beer.

They don't have very many of them, so my choices were between the 90 minute IPA and the 60 minute IPA (since I've had most of the others and no 120 minute was available). Well I went with the 90 minute, and I'm drinking it now, and its simply wonderful.

The alcohol content is absolubtly perfectly balanced at 9% and the carbonation is sweet and mild enough to actually let you taste the beer. Its pretty hoppy (duh) and I probably wouldn't drink it every day (even if I could spend $9 per four pack every day), but just to sit down and enjoy a beer, and maybe a nice cigar (which reminds me I need to check on my humidor) its really a wonderful change of pace from the over carbonated relatively flavorless beers that flood the market. As with all dogfish head I've had, I highly reccomend it if you happen upon the opporitunity.

I'm not able to get Dogfish Head here in Central California. I sent an email to Matt Webster at Dogfish Head (after perusing their site) who handles distibution for this area and got an almost instant reply which was very cordial and informative. He stated that he was aware of the situation and is presently working with some people to try and get get their product in my local stores. I was impressed and look forward to trying it when it arrives.

Thanks Matt ;^))

There's always mail order from online liqour stores if you're willing to pay shipping.

Not if you're in a state that bans alcohol shipments (for now, pending current court cases pending before the Supreme Court regarding wine shipments).

Maryland is one state where we can't order beer or wine online. Fortunately, Dogfish distributes here. (^_^)

Not in the bigger metropolitan areas, either. I've yet to find it in the SFBA. The website says Trader Joe's carries it, but I've never seen it. Not at BevMo, either. I'll keep looking. Maybe someone in news:ba.food has seen it.

Just returned from a week in Manhattan, and the Blind Tiger was a must-do in the Village (Thanks PubCrawler, Lew Bryson, and others). Absolutely loved the place, and DFH 90 was amongst my samples. So many beers, so little time...

Saw the mention of Trader's as a distrib site and I stated that in my email to matt at Dogfish. He mentioned that there was a "pricing issue" and they weren't distributing through Trader's.........at least for the moment.

Both are very good beers. I prefer the 90-minute because it has a nicer malt to balance out the hops.

Eh, I have a half-barrel of it in the basement. Well, 2/3 of a half barrel right now.

It's very mean to ask me to try and figure out what two thirds of one half is when I've just had a very large cosmopolitan.

FWIW, Dogfish Head isn't terribly difficult to find in southern California. I've never seen it at BevMo or TJ's down here, but several independents carry at least some of their products. Just bought some 120-Minute IPA from Hi-Time in Costa Mesa a couple weeks ago, and I know the World Wide Stout can be found in Long Beach.

Wicked cool. I had heard about 'Randal the Enamel Animal' (or something) and wondered where I could taste it. Does anybody know of other places that Randal-ize their 90 Min? Thanks for telling me about the Blind Tiger. I've never been, so some questions - do they have food & is it kid friendly? I mean by kid friendly that it's not a sit-down, quiet, foo-foo. Thanks, leo

Big aroma change, especially on a fresh hop batch in Randall (the Enamel Animal, not the guy on the newsgroup). The basic IBUs aren't really affected by the Randallificationizing.

Not really. If you're hungry, eat before you go. Or go on Mondays for free hot dogs after 6, or go on Wednesdays at 6 for a small bit of cheese and bread before it's gone at 6:10. But you're not going there for food as a rule.

You're funny. It's in no way, shape or form "quiet" or "foo-foo." In the evenings, it can be charitably described as "loud" and "drunken," followed at night by "meat market." People have been known to sit, though. I hope it isn't disqualified by that.

You'd be very hard-pressed to find a really good beer bar that's also kid-friendly in NYC. I suppose if it's the middle of a Sunday afternoon they might allow kids in, but I wouldn't let that worry you either. Buy 'em a drink.

Thanks for the info Dave. I've taken the kids to the various Heartlands before but I'll leave them home to go to Blind Tiger. Leo
