-------------------------------------------- The beer index is an informal way of measuring happiness in people by the scientifical method of comparing the price of a pint of beer to his income. High price and low income means unhappy, even suicidal, whereas low price and high income means happy. This is a variant of the Bic Mac index of the Economist magazine which measures the happiness of children, whereas the Beer Index measures the happiness of adult men. Generally the southern men are happier than the northern men because of the high variations in the price of beer caused by governments either pursuing the happiness of people or the unhappiness of people. Countries with high price of beer compared to income also have the highest rates of suicide.
As happiness is a hard-to-measure psychological factor, yet a very important thing in people's lives, it is believed this index is the most perfect way of measuring it.
