I've tried Mendocino Brewing's (of California) strong *ale* of that name.

Eh, give Dougie a break. He's from Germany (or at least posts from there), so he doesn't see many non-lagers.

Mendocino opened brewing operations in Saratoga to serve, at the very least, the eastern half of the US. The beer is noticeably different, and not in a good way, from the beer that originated from Mendocino West.

I seem to recall Eye of the Hawk being very IPA-like, not a strong ale, though it certainly had strength. It's also been bottled for years.

I think all of the Mendecino "birdie beers" are quie good: Black Hawk Stout, Blue Heron Pale Ale, Eye of the Hawk, and Red Tail Ale. Black Hawk Stout may be my favorite stout. I just noticed on their web site (

Anybody in the world can get an account on that server. I've posted from it, and live nowhere near Germany.

Mendocino also bottles a mixture of the EotH and Black Hawk Stout.

Feh. You've done better baiting before. Your standards are slipping. Must be because someone moved away from Brooklyn or something.

from Brooklyn or something.

When did you get a DVD player?

I would, but I can't remember where you put it.

Got it mail-order, directly from New Hampshire. I'd take it with me to GABF, but I'm going to a party at Fish Brewing in Olympia instead.
