first take on two IPAs

Butte Creek Organic IPA (7.1%) of Chico, CA: better than I expected, with a curious porter-y overtone.

Pyramid Thunderhead IPA (don't recall the alc. #) of Berkeley, CA: understated, with nice lace and clove-like notes. I found this bottled, but what the hell am I doing here? I live in the same city this beer is brewed and just havent taken the time to go down there and drink it from the horse's mouth. Might be - often is - a different story from a tap.

Neither one of these IPAs was outstanding to my nervous system and desires, but OTOH it's good to be alive and rich enough I can sample different beers and then have the time to make notes on them for who knows who.

I enjoy reading the posts here where the beer critics take themselves and their beers quite seriously. (I'm not being a wiseass here; I really do enjoy this stuff.)

It's interesting that you found it "porter-y." I thought it looked and tasted more like an amber ale, or even a brown ale, than an IPA. I was disappointed by it.
