Framboise Boon

I got a couple of bottles of this Lambic. I have to admit, it doesn't taste a lot like the Lindeman's Framboise I bought years ago. That was a very fruity tasting, sweet raspberry flavoured ale. This stuff is a bit more, umm, raspberry-tart flavoured. I think that I like this version better. If this is any indicator, Boon does some nice work with Lambics, imho.

By far my favorite fruit lambic was the Oude Kriek from Beersel. I don't believe they are still in business. Grab some if you can find it.

Lindeman's is waaay on the sweet side of lambics. In fact, as a lambic, I wouldn't consider their beers very good. As just a fruit beer, I'd consider them quite good.

Boon goes much more for the acidic and funky end of the spectrum (although probably not quite as funky as something like Hanssen's). His stuff is amongst my favorites that are commonly available over here (U.S.), although there are a few available over there that I'd glady have instead (Girardin and Drie Fontainen, for starters).

Except for the Cuvee Rene gueuze. (which of course isn't one of their "fruit beers") But the gueuze is one of the top 3 I've had (Beersel, Cantillon)

Those are 3 names I've been dying to try: Hanssens, Girardin, Drie Fonteinen.

Thanks, Steve. I find that explanation makes perfect sense.

Boon Gueuze is also one of my favourite beers. We haven't had it in Ontario, Canada for about 3 or 4 years now so, sadly, I can't call it commonly available. Far from it. We are supposed to be getting a few different lambics from Cantillon in the next little while, so here's hoping!
