Try three aspirin, a quart of water and some B-complex (a multivitamin will do) after you drink and you won't have a hangover the next morning.

And it won't cost five dollars!

Drink German beer. It never gave me a hangover when I was in Germany. Only American beer does that to me. The alcohol in Germany is different than the alcohol in America. I also noticed that I never saw a single bar fight the whole 2 years I was there. Back here in America, you'll see it every damn day.

Only American beer does that to me. The alcohol in Germany is different than the alcohol in America.

Ethyl alcohol is ethyl alcohol. There is absolutely no difference between the alcohol in Germany and America, or any other country.

*One* American beer has an elevated level of a chemical that's a fermentation byproduct that is also actually a component in hangovers, so therefore makes hangovers worse for some people. That chemical is acetaldehyde, and it's part of Budweiser.

there. Back here in America, you'll see it every damn day.

In almost 15 years of drinking in America, I have never seen a bar fight.

And I have seen one in Germany. And I only lived there six months.

You get *that* for free here! Does the purity law have no impact on hangovers?

Alcohol is the same. Could it have been you were a little younger in Germany therefore more hangover resistant? Could it have been you had good times there and perhaps are seeing through slightly rose-tinted glasses?

Trust me, you ingest enough alcohol and you will get a hangover of some sort - no matter the source. Budweiser has got acetlyaldehyde in it supposedly although I've never been able to taste it (and I haven't had Bud in years but I doubt it's changed) - and when you CAN taste it it's like green apple candy and NASTY. Acetlyaldehyde gives some people whopping headaches.

Also American beers that are microbrewed & unfiltered would probably be more forgiving on the ol' headache as brewers yeast contains complex B vitamins which (also supposedly) help with many hangover symptoms. Still, it's down to how much alcohol you consume as I've drank plenty of yeast laden homebrew and certainly felt it the next day.

Not intended to make you look like an idiot or a liar. Apologies if that's how I came across.

Just wanted to point out that there is no chemical or compositional difference in German and American beer. It's all the same. The German stuff just generally tastes better. And is very hangover-inducing, as one 11-liter day a few years back showed me amply.

And was just pointing out the generalizations and anecdotal evidence can go both ways. Although, I will certainly grant that Germans don't seem terribly prone to random alcohol-induced violence. If you tried something like Oktoberfest in the States, I think you'd have massive riots on your hands every night.

Not really. German Weizenbier (as wheatbeers in that style from whereever), contains a lot of fuselalcohols (higher (=complexer) alcohols than ethylalcohol), which is one of the elements thought to be determining the gravity of the hangover. Cheers, Joris
