Harpoon unites flavors _________________________________________________________________

I think Harpoon IPA is one of the best things to come out of Boston since the baked bean, and it has been one of my favorite summer beers for years. It offers the extremely crisp taste created by high bitterness, and more than enough hop flavor for practically anyone.

But there is another factor that puts Harpoon among the fines examples of India Pale Ale - enough malt to back up the overload of hops. I love the blend of malt and hop flavors when poured from a cold bottle, but that last mouthful after the glass has lost its cool, so to speak, is just simply wonderful. Available at better beer retailers for about $7.99/6-pack.

That's another one that strikes me as more of a pale ale than an IPA.

The best beer to come out of Massachusetts, I'd say, is Mercury Brewing's Ipswich Oatmeal Stout.
