Good Rogue Selection in N NJ?

I live in Morris county, seeking a decent selection of Rogue, esp. the Imperial IPA. I usually go to Gary's in Madison, best they do is Santa's Private Reserve. Any ideas on who has a good selection of Rogue in Norther NJ? TIA Leo

Ditto for Long Island. Usually have to make close to an hour trip east to Shoreline Beverage in Huntington for Rogue, as any I find farther east tends to be stale.

Home Liquors in Hackensack (River Road) may have it. It is the only place I can seem to find the Climax 64 oz growlers for sale. They have a warm import/micro section.

Does still Climax self-distribute their beers? (They have a sort of "go it alone" attitude I take it- they aren't a member of the Garden State Brewers Guild either

A call or e-mail to the brewery might help locate a source.

Good stuff but the 64 oz. bottle does tend to limit the times I buy it to when I know I'm having guests...

Funny - Climax growlers are in both of my main stores - Long Hill in Oakland (in the Shop Rite plaza) and Gary's in Madison. Still can' t find the Rogue Imperial IPA. I may have to just suck up the cost and order it online. Lei

Did you try the stores in Bridgewater on Rt. 22 or Oaktree Liquors in South Plainfield? I picked up the Rogue Imperial Pilsner at the latter last month (don't recall them having the IIPA, and imagine I would have popped for that instead if I had).

Stupid question - Casper, Wyoming or somewhere else? Leo

Not a stupid question and yes, Casper Wyoming. The beer capitol of Natrona County. lol

Asking because I figure Wyoming might just be too far to drive for beer :-) Leo

Well, if you do have to go the online purchase route:

Site looks good - Stone Brewing products too, which you can't get in NJ at all. Thanks Leo

There is (was, 3 years ago), a store just off Route 78, in Clinton, NJ, that had a wide selction of microbrews. I think I remember seeing Rogue of some sort there.

I made it to Oaktree in S. Plainfield on Friday. A bit of a ride - over an hour there & 2 back due to traffic but worth every minute. Not only did they have the Rogue Imperial IPA but an array of beers I've never seen anywhere else in NJ. When I walked over to the beer section, Rick, who manages the beer, right away asked if I needed any help. We talked for a few minutes on the virtues of hops. When I was leaving he gave me his business card plus a free pint glass. I was planning on spending $60 but spent $120! Here's what I got: Dogfishhead 90 Minute IPA Victory Hop Wallop Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale Stoudts' Double IPA Rogue Imperial IPA Flying Dog IPA Smuttynose IPA Rogue big bottles of Smoke Ale, Brutal Bitter, St. Rogue Red & Soba.

I've never seen the Flying Dog, Stoudt's or the Rogue anywhere else in NJ. Thanks so much for the recommendation! Leo

Nice haul!

PS: Hope the Flying Dog is better than I remembered.

Yeah, quite an impressive selection, I agree. My one complaint (hey, I always have at least one) is that they store and display their beers in typical "New Jersey liquor store" style- take the bottles and six packs out of their cases (thus, for many brands, losing the date codes), put them on the warm shelves, exposed to light (while the cans of Old Milwaukee sit in their closed cases in the dark cooler). I guess since I've been buying beer over the border in PA for 30+ years, I prefer the "by the case" option.

I'm in Central Jersey (Freehold/Hightstown area) but used to work in Edison, so I took a trip to that store (on extended lunch breaks- nice that our radios worked up there!) every coupla weeks. Now my main "good beer stores" are Joe Canal's outside of Trenton OR Marketplace Liquors in East Brunswick. Haven't been to the Liquor Locker Super Saver (Rt.

22 in Bridgewater) for awhile but always thought they still had an edge over Oaktree- if only for the "vintage dated" stuff and amazing selection of Belgian & UK beers. (Will be going back to work soon in Piscataway, so will be frequenting those two more in the near future.

Yeah, ditto for me on our last visit. I meant to send you his phone # but didn't find the business card (under a pile of "important paper") under the other day.

Really? Seems I see the Flying Dog stuff EVERYWHERE down here (haven't bought any since it was an "eh" beer for me when I tried it in Colorado several years ago). Ditto for most of the Stoudt brands, but I agree the selection of "big" bottles of Stoudt's has always been "iffy" but they are doing a good job of getting out their new 12 oz. bottled at the brewery beers. Rogue- I don't usually pay attention to. I'll pick up the occassional "new" style but my impression is that a lot of their beers sit around for a long time in NJ.
