Heinekens new H2 aluminum bottle

Heineken is testing a new aluminum bottle (the H2) in some markets in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago.

Where can you find this bottle? (store or club)

Thanks

In England we call this "a can"

Yeah, but you also call a truck a "Lorrie" and in the US that's a girl's name AND one of your most famous styles on beer is called "bitter" and Americans HATE bitter beer (I know, 'cause I saw it on TV). I won't even get into the driving on the "other" side of the road...

No. A truck is a "lorry"

And we have phantom lorries which kill people.

Up on the A57 past Hyde up to Woodhead.

I saw them at Shoreline Beverage in Huntington, LI, NY. Of course, if you're not in NY, that won't help.

No, it definitely helps that I'm not in NY. Means I'm that much farther away from the Heineken. Works for me.

Do you like any lagers that are under 6% ABV and 50 IBU? Seriously.

God yes. I absolutely adore Staropramen, drank bucketloads of it this summer, my favorite pils by far. Also like St. George's Brewing Pilsner, Prima Pils, Tupper's Hop Pocket Pils (OK, it's a real hoppy pils), and I used to be a huge fan of Brooklyn Pilsner, but I swear the beer changed and it's lost its lovely, fruity bite. As for other lagers, I think Dominioni's Victory Amber Lager is beautiful stuff, honestly probably the only thing labeled "lager" I would be prepared to order anywhere, anytime. As a rule, most things labeled "lager" don't thrill me too much.

Are there actually any lagers above 50 IBU? I'm assuming you meant "lagers or any ales under 50 IBU", and I like plenty of the latter (wits, wheats, varied stouts, and loads of other stuff). Just because I love hops don't mean I'm blind to the rest of the beer world. --

I didn't mean that. I meant lagers, and I probably should have said under

  1. So all the lagers you DO like are seriously hopped, yes? So you're only blind to a large part of the beer world. I just weep for anyone who doesn't get helles.

You know what I can't seem to get enough of lately, and I've been getting it pretty fresh, Hofbrauhaus Original in the big brown bottles. I put it in a half liter dimpled mug and I don't need dinner. Although I have to overlook the large "Original ALE" sticker because of screwy Texas law...

Works for me too. Heineken is the only beer that ever made me sick. Hell, I only drank a six-pack!

So, you don't like Oktoberfests, Bocks, Doppelbocks, Helles, Dunkels, Czech Pilzens, or any of those sorts of things?

My impression was Lou was speaking of lager not in the general sense of the style, but more in lighter-colored, less "dramatically" flavored lagers. Dunkels, bocks, and dopplebocks didn't seem relevant, though dopplebock is one of my favorite styles. Oktoberfests, no. Helles, not a huge fan. Czech pils, well, that's what Staropramen is, right? --

Nah. Lew knows what "lager" means, probably better than most people here.

}Dunkels, bocks, and dopplebocks didn't seem relevant, though }dopplebock is one of my favorite styles.

Well, you did say that "most things labeled 'lager' don't thrill me to much," and those are all lagers, and frequently labeled as such, at least in the more enlightened parts of teh US.

}Oktoberfests, no. Helles, not a huge fan.

Fair enough.

Bingo.
