Hop Ottin' tonight

...and I'm drooling in my beer glass.

Anderson Valley has me in her clutch. Snatched the last 6pack off the shelf at Haggen's - on sale for $6.49!

Wonderful stuff, isn't it? One of my favorites. I'm just getting by with a couple of bombers of Stone Ruination. I love the way the hops smack ya in the face, but as it warms, the complexity of flavors comes through. IPA's, I love 'em. Jim

I understand exactly what you mean. On my last trip to the west coast, I brought back some Hop Ottin' and Belk's ESB. The Hop Ottin' is long gone, but I enjoyed a few of the Belk's last night.....another nice beer from a nice brewery.

It's lost its novelty and charm for me. Columbus hops in the finish were interesting and different for a while, but now they just strike me as piney, resiny, and borderline foul-tasting. They were developed as a bittering-only hop, and IMO that's where they should stay. Hop Ottin' is the most ham-handed and overrated beer from a ham-handed and overrated brewery.

Heh! You call that just getting by?

I love this phrase. I'm stealing it! I love being smacked in the face with hops!

I probably have an affinity for Anderson Valley because it was one of the first microbrews I enjoyed, around 1995 or so. I tend to be biased towards my old faves.

I guess I'll have to drink a lot more Hop Ottin', so the interesting novelty of this delicious beer can wear off and I can move over into recognizing its piney, resiny, foul taste. Please mail me any leftover Hop Ottin' you have lying around so I can achieve this. Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Had some more last night, in search of piney resin... mmm! I think I've found them! I better have one more to be sure. :)

I'm envisioning a whole new line of S&M beer fanfiction. Sort of like The Beerhunter meets Anne Rice's Sleeping Beauty books.
