Jackpot Gents!

Greetings gents:

I just returned from Indianapolis. I attended Star Wars Celebration III. I also took the opportunity to take advantage of the "no upper limit" beer laws. I spent a ridiculous amount of cash on the following selections. I am so excited!!!

2 - 750 mL bottles Delerium Tremens 1 - 750 mL bottle Delerium Nocturnum 1 - 750 mL bottle Geants Goliath Tripel 1 - 750 mL bottle Ommegang Hennepin 1 - 22oz Stone Smoked Porter (in honor of Mr. Becker, although I can't remember if he enjoyed it!) 1 - 22oz Great Divide Hercules Double IPA 1 - 22oz Three Floyds Brian Boru 2 - 12 oz St. Bernards ABT 12 1 - 12 oz De Hemel Nieuw Ligt Grand Cru 2003 1 - 12 oz Duchesse de Bourgogne 2 - 12 oz Lindeman's Peche (just a personal fav.) 1 - 12 oz Dogfish Head 120 Min. IPA (yuk! never again!) 1 - 4 pak Duvel (wow!) 1 - 6 pak Thirsty Dog Hoppus Maximus (Anchor Liberty is better IMHO) 1 - 4 pak Samiclaus (whoa!) 1 - 750 mL Catillon Gueze

That's all for now. I haven't gotten in to all of it yet, but I can't wait. So far the only one I really am sure I will never buy is the Dogfish Head

120. It was waaaaaaaaaay too sweet for me. Anyway, I thought I share my bounty with my buddies!

Quite a haul!

I feel the same way about the Dogfish 120 minute IPA. I like the 60 and the 90 okay though I don't think it's all they are cracked up to be. For a hoppy beer I much prefer Stone Ruination or Bear Republic Hop Rod Rye. While still way overpriced, I prefer DH Chicory Stout and Indian Brown when I get the notion to shell out $13.00 for a six pack.

Cantillon Gueuze! I love this stuff! I've only had it a handful of times as it was not available in Texas and seems to be sporadically available here in Colo (though not in the 'Springs). Tastes like a sour barn! Haha!

My own mini-haul today, all locally:

Nethergate Augustinian Ale----Nasty. The coriander in this one just does not work Nethergate Old Growler Porter----not yet tasted Scneider Aventinus------had this many times before and it kicks as* Scneider Weisen Edel-Weisse-----not yet tasted Grotten Brown Cave Aged Ale----not yet tasted Deus Brut des Flandres(2002)----not yet tasted

And....that came to a shade over US$50.

Best regards, Bill

I had a friend who was there... Didn't know you were a Star Wars geek too. :-)

I recently visited my brother in Baltimore; since he's driving out soon (actually, on his way by now!), I bought about $150 worth of beer for him to bring back, and a few things I could fit in my carryon.

I was surprised at how sweet it was, but I didn't really mind. It's definitely not for everyone, and I admit I probably won't buy it over and over again (now, the World Wide Stout on the other hand...).

PS -- anyone in Chicagoland who might want to say hi (not that I'm a big voice here, but I "know" some of you from your posts), I'll be at the Map Room Saturday night.

At least one of us will be at Mickey Finn's judging in the NHC first round all day Saturday. Might be a few lurkers, as well.

I've had two of these. The first time I thought it was magnificent; the second time it was less than inspiring. I'm wondering if it just doesn't age well, and my second bottle and your first were a bit old. But one would hope a corked beer SHOULD age gracefully, so I don't know. At the price Deus sells for, it's not likely that I'll be trying it again trying to see how it fares.

I poured the rest down the drain. It reminded me of a high alcohol malt liquor that you can buy for a song. Never again.

I thought that Deus was a good beer, but not at all a truly great one, and not really worth the pricetag. As a one time thing it was worth checking out, but I can safely say I'll never buy another bottle.

I agree the DH120 was not what I expected. Haven't tried the DH Chickory Stout, but since you like getting StonE'd their stout is pretty decent. I find I'm drinking more stovepipe porter than stout these days.

if anyone wants to know what I thought. Yes, I'm going to do an index one of these days soon, I didn't expect people to want to find the old notes.
