Just for the record, it was a full page ad in Billboard magazine "thanking" Nashville for it's support.. March 14, 1998

The photo was taken in 1969 before Johnny's recorded show at San Quentin prison. The story is that a photographer asked Johnny to express his feelings regarding the prison warden and he flipped the bird. The photo was later used by American Records to thank Nashville for their "support" after Johnny won a Grammy for one of his American Recordings - Unchained IIRC.
