Just back from paris...

... before all of the shooting started. Highlights were my favorite Leffe dark and light, but I found a great small cafe which advertises

24 beers on tap. I had the Chimay and what has become a new favorite, Adelscott. The beer I cannot get to like are the Alsasian beers. I tried Kronembourg 1664, Fisher, and Mutzig but all of them seem too light.

Along with the other activities I finally did something I had been planning to do - "A Hemingway:" I had a drink at La Rotounde. Then I walked across the street and had a drink at Le Select (this has become unattractive and had no outside seating) Then I walked down the street and had a drink at Le Dome. And finally walked in the other direction and had a drink at the Closserie de Lilas (this has an outside garden but it is blocked off from the street) . After all of this work, I went back to the cafe Flore and finally ended up at the best - Les Deux Magots.

If you ever get to Paris, visit Taverne St Germain (Two doors down from Lipps)

155, Bld St Germain 75006 Paris Tel. 42 22 88 98

They claim 24 beers on tap and 280 bottles. A large bright tavern with a pleasant decor; note the collection of porcelain tankards under lock and key on the wall. There was an acceptable level of background music, Country and Western verging on the Blues. They offer the inevitable "moules frites" plus a range of traditional French food. However, if the cassoulet was good and filling (but not exceptional), the choucroute was barely better than canned.
