I used to drink what I consiered to be the best dark beer ever back in the days when I lived in NYC. I can't find this beer anywhere now in Maryland. Any ideas about how I can get som??Anyone else ever drink this fantastic beer? Russ

I remember getting this at the Peculiar Pub in NYC "back in the days".

Very tasty, but haven't seen it in years.

Wow someone else remembers this one. I got it all the time in the late 70's and early 80's in Mass. Last time I had it was 1992 from some specialty store in D.C. Man I am not sure there ever was a better beer. Puts any German export to shame. Even Hacker Pshor. I checked out the Vintage cellars web site. They list the Moncschof WURZGARDEN RIESLING . I for one dont like the Riesling beers. There is nothing like a dark lager.

I did some quick searching on the various ways of spelling Monkshof. Looks like the large brewery closed in 1999. Beer is now brewed by Kulmbacher Brauerei.

No, I meant to search for Kulmbacher on the Vintage Cellars site. Here's an example:

We get the Monchshof Schwartzbier in KC. It comes in a 500ml swingtop. I thought it was pretty tasty. You'd think it would be available on the east coast.
