Leffe

I was in New York City to meet a friend for drinks etc, and we went to a cafe called Pigalle on 790 8th Ave at 48th. In addition to good French food they have Stella Artois, Kronenborg, and Leffe braun and leffe blond "en pression." It was a pleasure to sit next to an open set of doors and sip a Leffe.

Yeah, Leffe Brune is pretty good stuff. I drank a fair amount of it on a recent stint in New Zealand. The Blond isn't bad either.

There is a bar in Terminal 4 at London/Heathrow Airport that also serves Leffe. While waiting for our flight back to the US I drank a few pints of that beer and it was great! Watch out for the Portuguese bartenders though(!), they put on quite a show behind the bar for tired travelers!

I wish I could find a place here in Seattle that serves it! At least on my next trip to New York I now know where I can find it!!! Thanks!

You haven't found Brouwers yet? 35th N and N Phinney, in Fremont, across the street from the former Redhook brewery and Trolleyman pub. You might find Leffe on tap there, and if you don't, rest assured there's plenty of other beers there worth drinking. I enjoyed Gouden Carolus Triple and Liefmans Goudenband there on 4/16.

OTOH, why be impressed with Leffe? It's not awful, but it's nothing special either, no more than its sister brands Hoegaarden and Stella Artois are. All of them are brewed by the world's largest brewing corporation (by volume - A-B is still largest in terms of money).

$5.75 per relatively small (8 oz?) glass. Supply & demand I suppose.

At least an interesting statement. Dont shout it too hard please :-)) No, serious. I prefer Leffe Blond. The hell with Inbev being a mega-company. That Leffe Blond is still damn tasty.... Cheers,

Hmmmm....somewhat expensive though. $5.75. I suppose this is without a 15% tip-charge ? Would make it $ 6.61 !! Here in Belgium it has a price of approx. $ 3.00 (ps: no tips needed here) Cheers,

That was the price in New York City, easily the most expensive city in the USA for that kind of thing.

When you ship a liquid that is 93% water from Europe to the USA, then add taxes and import duty, the price is going to be higher. Can't do much about that.

suppose.

Could be worse, I suppose. I could have converted those bucks into euros and bought the beer in Paris.
