MacTarnahan's Bourbon Cask Aged Blackwatch Cream Porter

Umm....no. I find that I don't like the taste of bourbon in my porter and it's(bourbon taste) *definitely* there from where I sit.

Best regards, Bill

PS: Sippin on an Olde Suffolk Ale...it *could* be great but it misses the mark by just a smidgeon; maybe it's my palate's fault.. spoiled by intense beers like Prima Pils, Double Bastard, Ruination, Samichlaus, Traquair House, Bridgeport IPA, etc..

I'm pretty fond of the bourbon aged blackwatch there is bourbon flavor and noticable oak but it actually seems subtle when compared to some other bourbon cask aged beers that I've had (and which I also found quite good) such as the Beerman's Bourbon Barrel Barleywine (good alliteration too) and Full Sails take on a Bourbon aged porter which was amazing with the pulled pork sandwich I was eating at the time.

Agree with you on the bourbon porters.

Out of curiosity, what mark is the Olde Suffolk trying, yet not quite succeeding to hit? I personally love the stuff, but I wouldn't try and compare it with your mentioned list. I find that a lot of different subtle flavors emerge throughout one glass.

Since when is Prima Pils an intense beer? Isn't it just a 5.3% ABV light bodied pilsner?

Alcohol's not the indicator of "intensity" when it comes to beer. The fact that Prima is exceptionally hoppy and bitter is certainly enough to make the label worthwhile.

Sorry for my wording and....my judging based on one bottle of the stuff...I got another bottle waiting for me that I'll enjoy Wednesday and at a better temp.

PS: You ever try Thames Welsh USB? I shared a bottle with a friend of mine and he claims a licorice aftertaste.(He very well may be right)

Hey no problem, this is usenet! ;-) I would whole heartedly recommend the better temp if you tried one that was really cold.

I saw the Welsh ESB appear at the same time I started buying the Greene King. I don't know that I've gotten a licorice aftertaste but it seems to have less diacetyl than Fuller's ESB, and less hop aroma but maybe more bitterness. I really like it.

Dammit...I forgot that I gave my other bottle to my friend. Oh well....

I really like the Welsh ESB as well.
