Where would one go to get the best beer and/or brew pub in Manhattan?

There are two brewpubs in Manhattan: The Chelsea Brewing Company and Heartland Brewery (HB actually has five locations through out Manhattan)

There's a lot of good bars. Blind Tiger Ale House, d.b.a., David Copperfields, area small handful of them.

It's hard to top the Blind Tiger. In the Village, and with Large and varied scope of handles, great bottle selection and, better still, across from John's Pizza! Tough to beat. The nights that they feature individual breweries are big fun. Just make sure you come early.

The Hop Devil is another favorite. Good handles, plus the bonus of having a small Belgian room next door.

Brewpubs: Chelsea Brewing is nice. Decent beers, good food, and a nice view of the Hudson.

There's also a number of Heartland Brewerys' around the island. Solid, if unspectacular.

Plenty of other good spots. Just consult Pubcrawler and Ratebeer.

Cheers!

While I have always loved New York (except the Yankees) and I live there for two year,, I've only spent a few days there in the last 10 years.

There's a place called Ginger Man on 36th just east of Madison. It had a great beer selection.

Then there's some Irish Pub in the East 50's which a few Irish beer on tap, but great Shepard's Pie.

Waterfront Ale House or any of the others mentioned.

The Union Square Heartland is one place I'd avoid, unless you enjoy packed, loud places (especially on weekend nights).
