More Expensive Brands Set Ohio Liquor Sales Record

Try saying this after a few drinks: The state's eighth straight sales record for spirits.
The Ohio Department of Commerce reports today that statewide liquor sales hit $656 million in 2006 -- up $44 million from the year before.
The figures relate only to liquor that is more than 21 percent alcohol by volume, not beer and wine.
Liquor Control Superintendent Rae Ann Estep says the numbers are boosted by continuing price increases and a trend of consumers preferring premium brands. But she says overall consumption is going up, too.
Kamchatka Vodka was Ohio's top seller by gallons, followed by Jack Daniels whiskey.
