Is BOTM ever worth it? A friend bought me a three month subscription, and I ended up with six beers that, while new and somewhat pleasant to me, weren't really anything special. I was thinking about joining Michael Jackson's Extra Snarky Rare Beer Club, but then they started throwing stuff like Grottenbier in, so decided against it. Are any of them really a good deal?

If you have a literal plethora of beers to choose from, probably not. If you live in a beer desert like Casper Wyoming, for sure.
I've had some real gems in the past delivered to me. Hop Pocket's Pils and Ale were to most recent samples of said gems.

I'll be interested in your impressions.
I last visited Elmwood Brewing a year or so back. It's housed in a beautiful brick building, located on the town square and thoroughly rehabbed, in the pretty and well-kept town of Elmwood (west-central Il., near Peoria). My understanding is that the building was purchased by a lawyer in town, who is also a brewer. It's more of a restaurant than brewpub (at least as I would define the term). The times I've been there the clientele has skewed to the 'family' demographic, far more so than toward the beer geek.
That said, I was more than surprised when I heard they had plans to bottle and distribute their beers. At their restaurant/pub, I must say that I found the beers to be uniformly light-even 'watery'-for style. While I've seen some of their offerings at various retailers, at the craft beer prices they seek, I find many superior choices. As such, I've not had the opportunity to try their bottled product. Perhaps they've improved?
Cheers,
EFB
*I'd say not. Your description of "light-even 'watery' sums up my impressions accurately.
Plus, and this is a first for me, the bottles of the Amber Ale have particulate matter floating in them..and that ain't no yeast.(also, no sign of any bottling date/best by date) :^(

I remember liking Fordham. Elmwood... haven't tried it.
You're right. Both Fordhams are nice particularly the Copperhead which is noted as an authentic German style Altbier.
Best regards, Bill
Signs of some seriously OLD beer. Demand a refund, or better, MORE BEER.
Nah. Start your own BOTM club. Pick out a few new beers every month (or week, or day or......?!?!?) and do your own research. That way, if you get a bad sample, you can move onto another at your own leisure. If you hit a gem, you can stock up locally.
