Ohio's "Merlot To Go" Law

Reported by: 9News Web produced by: Liz Foreman Photographed by: 9News First posted: 9/21/2006 2:46:53 PM Wine lovers in Ohio no longer have to leave behind an unfinished bottle of wine when dining out.

A new state law dubbed "Merlot To Go" (also known as Cork 'n Carry) takes effect today.

The law allows an open wine bottle in cars as long as the seller seals it and the buyer puts the bottle in the trunk or out of reach.

There are several products that serve as doggy bags for wine. One is appropriately called the Wine Doggy Bag. Another is called the Cork 'n Go.

What about beer? If I order that jereboam of Duvel and decide I can't drink it all without risking DUI, I can't have that "doggy bagged" to go? I tell ya, there's an immense double standard in the world of fermented beverages.
