See, that makes NO sense to me (altho' trying to figure out the business decisions of Pabst/Falstaff/General/Whatever is always a puzzle) since City Brewery DOES contract brew the McSorley's brands that are owned by Pabst and it's nowhere as good as it was when it was an Ortlieb product and one of the hoppiest beer in the US, pre-micro, of course. (I'm assuming McSorley's is still pretty much an East Coast product?) You'd
*think* they'd get the contract for Old Style, instead.- Vote on answer

City Brewery does have a contract for Special Export, still a very fine beer although oldtimers here in Chicago think it is not as good as before. Interestingly, City Brewery produces City Lager, which is supposed to replicate the Special Export formula of the '70s. I still prefer the Special Ex and my neighborhood bar in Chicago, Lasko's on Milwaukee Avenue, stocks it for me.

Ah, yes, Special Export. Had nearly forgotten about that beer. Probably my favorite Heileman product. In NJ, we never got a lot of Heileman products, but I occassionally found it on beer runs to PA. One would think that would have changed when they bought Carling/National and later Schmidt's of Phila., but they still never brought their big selling mid-Western beers to the East Coast (well, Mickey's made it ). In fact, seems like after they took over C/N, National Premium (another favorite of mine at the time) disappeared from NJ, altho' the discount stores had a lot of National Bohemian for awhile there.
Sorry for the pre-micro nostalgia...
