Well gee, everyone knows all superior beers are bottled in green bottles. I mean, that's why Heineken is so great.

I've started just avoiding single sixers of European pilsners. Just buy 'em in a closed case to avoid light problems. Hey, maybe I'll go get some Staropramen after work . . .

Or for those of you living appropriately northward, duck across the Canadian border. PU is available in cans up there, or at least it is in BC. No light problems, you betcha.

Or just buy "Czechvar" ... it's packaged in brown glass, the way it oughta be.

You sure about that? I could be misremembering, but I recall getting Czechvar in green bottles right after it hit my area. It was pretty good. A week later bought from the same source it was skunky (and still in green bottles). Or do they do a Spaten and use green 12-ouncers and brown 1/2-liter bottles?

Yep - 12-ouncers in green glass, 0.5 liters in brown. If you can get the 1/2 liters, no reason to bother with 12-ouncers anyway. [Czech|Bud]var is meant to be drunk a half-liter at a time.

Date code won't help you -- it only takes a few hours of the right sort of light and BAM! Skunked. If it's in a cardboard box, though, it should be okay. Unfortunately you have to buy at least a 12-pack to get that, but fortunately it's a good beer.

I don't get it either.

Unfortunately, no 0.5-liter containers of Budvar 'round here.
