A supposedly archtype beer that no longer lives up to its reputation (now (proudly?) in the same group that never did, such as, well, er, you know...)

(and the fact that the truly fresh stuff in > the Czech Republic is like 50 cents or less makes it just > that much better).

Er, no. Bud can be had for the price of Coca-Cola. Doesn't mean I give a f*ck. Schaefer must rule, yes?

Try getting an unopened case.

Try buying it in the big bottles or finding it on draught.

A lot of > American pubs are serving the stuff on draught now too.

Like I said.

It's worth seeking out,

It is. But..."great" beer? I'm have become unconvinced, but that's progress for you. However, it beats the coliform out of the under-attenuated mess that is Staropromen. IMO.

comments?

Fuck reputation. Is it a good beer? Yes, it is. Again, when fresh. It's one that doesn't suffer abuse well.

It's sort of like saying Anchor Steam sucks based on having drunk a three-month-old bottle in New York.

Good stuff had for cheap makes the experience that much more enjoyable. Crap for cheap is still crap.

Draught is best, yes. Anecdotally, it seems the .5 L bottles are rarer and rarer on this side of the Atlantic.

Qualifies as great in my purely hedonistic evaulation. And, yes, it's better than Staropramen, although I don't find it as bad as you do.

Now, I'll take Starobrno over the both of them in no time. But that's the most difficult to find out of the three.
