CRAFT BEER CONTINUES TO SELL
The Brewers Association, the trade association representing the majority
of U.S. brewing companies, reports America's small and independent craft
brewers are still growing despite many challenges and are continuing to
provide jobs to the U.S. economy.

NEWCASTLE ROLLS OUT A NEW BEER BARREL
Newcastle Brown Ale has announced the launch of the Newcastle
DraughtKeg. It uses the same technology originally created by Heineken
USA, aimed to provide freshness and portability through a pressurized
draft system that utilizes a patented internal CO2 system with a mini

SHORT POUR FILM FEST: CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS The "First Ever" short-film
festival on the subject of BEER will debut at the Monterey Beer Festival
on June 5th, 2010, from 12:30pm to 5pm. Do you love beer? Have you ever
thought about being a filmmaker? Or perhaps you're already a
professional or even amateur filmmaker. If so, here's your chance to
showcase your talent with a short (3 minutes or less) film about beer.

ALL BEER IS THE SAME?
I try to keep my criticisms of beer coverage by the mainstream media
civil, especially since at times I'm one of them. But an article posted
yesterday on MSNBC, Will You Drink Beer In A Box?, is so completely
riddled with error and ridiculousness that the gloves are off. Author
James Dlugosch may know stocks and the world of finance, but when it
comes to beer, he's an unmitigated idiot.

THE HOPFATHER: A BEER YOU CAN'T REFUSE
At the Bistro IPA Festival this August, Russian River Brewing debuted
their latest beer: The Hopfather. The Hopfather is a 7% IPA that's
loosely based on an IPA recipe Vinnie Cilurzo contributed to Sam
Calagione's book Extreme Brewing, though Vinnie says he's changed things
up considerably.

FDA FINALLY RULES ON GLUTEN-FREE BEER
Five years after Congress required the FDA to determine a standard for
gluten-free labeling and allow brewers to put "gluten-free" on their
labels, the new rule has finally taken effect.

BUD LIGHT: WHAT GOES AROUND FINALLY COMES AROUND At last month's beer
summit it was the brew of choice for the leader of the free world,
Barack Obama. It is the best-selling beer in the United States and a
close relative of the world's best-selling beer. Yet, the headlines this
week have been decidedly negative. "How Bud Light lost its sense of
humor-and, subsequently, sales."

the big screen next year, but you can watch the trailer now.

TODAY SHOW AGAIN ASKS WINE EXPERT TO EXPLAIN BEER For the second time in
less than a year, the lazy producers at the Today Show had a segment
about beer hosted by someone from Food & Wine magazine. This time it was
Gail Simmons, who's perhaps better known as a judge on the Bravo
television show Top Chef. I've looked over her biography and I can't for
the life of me find any mention of beer whatsoever.

HOMER SIMPSON TO UNCAP GREAT AMERICAN BEER FESTIVAL Homer Simpson is
going to cut the ceremonial opening ribbon at the Great American Beer
Festival? Arming Homer Simpson with a giant pair of scissors at a beer
festival gives reason for pause. But we hear that Marge will be nearby
to help temper Homer's mental at this year's Great American Beer
Festival, September 24-26 at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver,
Colorado.

Martin of Dells Brewing Co., Wisconsin. http://www.dellsmoosejaw.com/.

Brewer's Sense that can and will save money and time in the brewery.
