Anyone had this one? I love ROgue's beers, just wondering what this one is like. Mike E.

/me raises my hand. I've never tried one. :^(

Doesn't sound all that appealing to me, though.

Best regards, Bill sippin on a Young's Double chocolate Stout.

Had it as the relabeled "Morimoto" soba ale. Found it to have a distinct buttered toast flavor that was pretty unpleasant to me. I don't know if that was tons of diacetyl, or some effect of the buckwheat. Either way, not something I'd buy again.

Now, the Old Crusty I had at the Taphouse in San Fran last week, otoh...

I'd have to go back and search my notes for this one, but I have had it. It didn't impress me anywhere near as much as the (yummy) buckwheat beers I've had from Belgium (Sara comes to mind).

I don't find anything remarkable about buckwheat, say, over regular wheat. Its a lightish ale not entirely different from most "American Wheat" beers (that is, light in color, body and flavor, fermented with a very clean ale yeast, no esters, no spices, although it did have Rogue's typical hand in hops). The label says they use Munich malt, but mine was straw colored with no discernible sweetness of the kind you get from Munich.

I concur with everyone else that its nothing remarkable. I tries the black Soba (buckweat) Ale the other day which is one of the anniversary beers from a few months back and it was slightly better with a bit of nuttiness to it but again nothing special.
