Sapporo Black in the U.S.?

Are there any sources for Sapporo Black in the United States? Mailorder options?

I'd heard that the Black wasn't being imported into the U.S. any longer, but why would they stop? The rest of the Sapporo product line is still here.. Patrick W. Heinske -- Central NC, USA snipped-for-privacy@aol.NOSPAMcom

If you can't find that one, may I suggest New Belgium 1554 Brussels Style Black Ale?

Thanks for the tip - I'll see if I can't find that one to give it a shot.

It's not that I can't find other Blacks to enjoy, it's that Sapporo Black was my favorite companion to sushi, and I don't understand why they stopped importing it (if that is indeed the case)... just wondering if there are any current sources for it in the U.S./North Carolina.

But I'm always up to try something new. :-) Patrick W. Heinske -- Central NC, USA snipped-for-privacy@aol.NOSPAMcom

I hear you. When a proven favourite suddenly leaves the market, it leaves me shaking my head. Like when the Baltic Porters of Okocim and Zywiec suddenly stopped being imported. :^(

Let's see. How long ago was this? I've seen Sapporo black in Northern Texas in the last 8 months. Terribly expensive at $11.00 a six pack though, so I don't know how much will sell although I bought a couple. I like the Yebisu and the all-malt reserve in cans also.

Seems like 3 years ago or so that I'd heard they had stopped importing the Black. I hope the ones you found weren't from way back *then*... ::chuckle:: Patrick W. Heinske -- Central NC, USA snipped-for-privacy@aol.NOSPAMcom

I don't know what the 1554 claims to be really, but its not too far from being a schwarzbier. But if you can find Kostritzer then you'll be doing OK.

Some sort of archaic Belgian style, an ale, not a lager like a real schwarzbier.
