Victory Brewing Releases Doppelsticke Alt In February

Can't wait to try this at the EBF!!!

(Downingtown, PA) - Victory Brewing has created the first doppelsticke alt beer to be produced in the United States. Ten Years Alt, as it has been named, celebrates the brewery's tenth anniversary of operations and was created as a tribute to the craft of brewing.

Ten Years Alt is entirely unique, yet it marks a point in the continuum of brewing innovation. Whereas alt beer has been the crisp hallmark ale of Dusseldorf, surrounded and outnumbered by the myriad lagers of Germany, 'sticke' alts are the 'secret' offerings Dusseldorf brewmasters produce for their pub patrons on an infrequent basis. Stronger and richer than the standard alt beer, their release is typically announced with a simple sign that claims 'sticke.'

The Victory version of this 'secret' offering is inspired by the rich brewing heritage of the alt beers. It is a dark ale exhibiting the love of hops and mastery of malt that Victory has displayed for 10 years. Initially assertive with spicy hops, Ten Years Alt concludes ever so comfortably in rich, roasted malts and burnished hop character.

"Weighing in at 8.5% alcohol by volume, Ron [Barchet] and I felt it would be a great winter beer for release in conjunction with our tenth anniversary celebration," said Bill Covaleski, Brewmaster and President of Victory Brewing Company.

The official release date of Ten Years Alt will be Wednesday, February 15,

2006, though a special sampling of one half barrel will take place at the Beer Advocate Extreme Beer Fest to be held in Boston on February 11
