Victory V-10

So, on this nice late summer day (first weekend since I returned to work after a 6 week layoff) I found myself out of "regular everyday" beer. (My new worksite commute doesn't make it easy to stop for beer on the way home and leaving work at 4 pm- rather than the 1 pm I was used to makes a run up to Bridgewater (SuperSaver) or down to Quakerbridge (Joe Canal's) for my summer standards of HopDevil, Prima Pils or Jever difficult.)

So, I was searching the beer fridge for something and, as usual, what's left are mostly high alcohol beers. I came across a bottle of Victory V-10 way in the back. What was the problem with this stuff?

I'm drinking it now, nice color, very clear, no "foaming", a bit of "age" in the nose, but taste pretty good.

I tried the V-10 twice and didn't think it tasted good at all. It left me asking myself, is that it? The Grand Cru and V-12 on the other hand...(especially the V-12)

Well, I guess I saying it was "good" as opposed to "bad", rather than "good" as opposed to "eh...". I seem to remember there was some sort of quality issue with the beer (and might explain why it good pushed to the rear of the refrigerator along with various bottles of wine that are left from parties...).

Oh, yeah, I got a few of each down in the beer cellar.

The initial bottling (which was the first use of a new bottling line at the time) got astoundingly infected in a very short period of time. I liked the V-10 fresh but my cellared bottles were *ugly*.

They seem to have fixed the bottling problems on the 750 line, but I still hear reports of some issues with 12 ouncers on occasion. I'm still blaming the new 12 oz bottling line for the unfortunate condition of last year's Storm King (not infected, just, well, bad). --

Have you tried their Golden Monkey? Very awesome tripel. I like Hop Devil but at times it's almost too oily. Not nearly as good as Three Floyds Alpha King or Stone's IPA. Of course Stone's Ruination IPA is even better.
