Visiting New England...Brewery/Pub suggestions

Hello all,

We are planning a trip to new England early next year. I have never been and it sounds like many of you are from there or or are least familiar with the region. We start out in Boston and then will be heading to Salem, Glouster, up to Portsmouth where we'll spend the night. The next day it's off to Concord, then over to Laconia for the bike week festivities. We'll be staying with friends/family in Moultonborough so I'm sure that's a day there. Then it's off to Vermont and a place called Stafford or something like that....looks like it's close to Bethel near I89. We're pretty flexible after that.....this looks to be a week+ long trip.....nothing is in stone yet.

Having said that....where can a thirsty guy go for some good beer? I'm in California, so alot of what I hear you guys talk about isn't available here.

Thanks for all the input and great beers I have tried after reading the comments in the group.

Robert

It is alleged that mrbetelman claimed:

Metro Boston area: Boston Beer Works, brewpub. Two locations: Across from Fenway Park, and near North Station. I think the one at Fenway is better.

Bukouski, beer bar. Near the Hynes Auditorium. They have a "wheel of beer" if you can't decide.

The Publick House, formerly "Anam Cara", pub. Washington Sq, Brookline.

Sunset Grill, beerbar and restaurant, Allston. Don't go if you don't like the college scene as it's a favorite of BU students.

Cambridge Brewing, brewpub, Kendall Sq, Cambridge.

John Harvard's Brewhouse, brewpub. At least two locations, Harvard Sq, Cambridge and Shopper's World, Natick.

Redbones, beerbar and Southern BBQ, Davis Sq, Somerville.

Coolidge Corner Clubhouse, pub. Coolidge Corner, Brookline.

Salem: Salem Beer Works, brewpub. Same chain as Boston Beer Works.

Portsmouth: Muddy River Smokehouse, bbq/smokehouse and pub.

There's a brewpub somewhere in downtown Portsmouth, but I don't recall the name or address. My brother who lives near there says it's good.

Cataqua, Red Hook Brewery, Pease Intl Tradeport

Depending on how you drive to VT, Seven Barrel Brewery on the NH/VT border on Rt. 89. Brewpub.

Brattelboro, VT: McNeill's Brew House

If you head into Maine, Gritty McDuff's, brewpub, has two locations, one in Portland and one in Freeport (home of LL Bean).

If you're going to buy bottled beer while in NE, look for Mercury Brewing's Ipswich Ales.
