Young's Double Chocolate Stout

My local package store seems to be getting different stuff in every week now. I got to try this one over the weekend. I liked this one, it's a really good stout.

Chocolate milk-flavored beer. And I mean that in a very good way.

I will have to look it up. Planning a pilgrimmage to Liquor World in Delaware and they typically have all brands from around the world.

Imagine the largest supermarket... then take out the meat, produce, poultry, sundry items, frozen foods... and add beer, wine and liquor.

Young's DC Stout is good in a milk chocolate sort of way. I'd like to try a chocolate-flavored stout involving good dark chocolate.

Yes, been in those before, but the point was that Ratebeer.com lists over

30,000 unique beers, almost all of which will have regional distribution. "All brands" is just a bit of a stretch.

Delaware seems to foster these types of places. I buy my wine at Total Wine in Claymont. Huge freaking store. Best selection I've ever seen in one place, but the beer inventory is meager (though usually interesting). I'll have to try Liquor world.

I also found that the distributors in Philly had great selections of exotic beers. One in King of Prussia / Norristown was a favorite.

There used to be a Jazz Bar called the Balligo Inn in that area, the late proprietor Dave had hundreds of beers in his cellar -- many I believe were from a distributor somewhere in that area. Sadly, Dave passed away after one too many bypass operations.

I always wondered what happened to that place. A great place for local Jazz for years and always had ~50 beers on tap.

Do you remember the name of the distributor in K of P/Norristown?

Thanks, Jon

Haven't read this group since before I left for the Great British Beer Festival the last week of July.

I've been to Stateline Liquors in Maryland just over the Delaware state line in Maryland near I-95. Is this store better? Is it near I-95?

Thanks, Bruce

Yes, it's just off of I-95 north of the Md. 273 interchange (last in Md.). In my experience it's better than anything you'll likely to find in Delaware--I personally know of wealthy Delawareans who routinely go to State Line for the better selections and prices.

Hi, there,

I tried this beer when it first came out a few years back. Haven't tried it since. It did have some massive chocolate malt overtones and the hops didn't seem to come through just right for some reason. It's a decent stout, I suppose, but it lacks that coffee-like flavor I'm used to finding. If you haven't done so, try their oatmeal stout. Youngs makes a rather decent one. Not as good as Sam Smith's oatmeal stout but still very good for all that.

Regards,
