40th Anniversary

On 16th June this year local members of the Campaign for Real Ale in West Berkshire will be celebrating the 40th anniversary of the formation of the Newbury branch.

We are anxious to get in touch with some of the members who were active at that time but with whom we have lost contact, namely Adrian Adams, David Wright, Chris McGrath, Glyn Davis, Andy Smith, Denis Maynard, Mary and Denis Bradbury, Paul Hancock, Roger Shelton, Jackie Cragg, Martin Dennison, Bob Buxey, Mike Pritchard, Mike Swanborough, Geoff Forbes, Richard Smith and Denis Picot.

If any of you mentioned are reading this, or if anyone knows the whereabouts of any of these former colleagues, please contact me at snipped-for-privacy@yahoo.co.uk with full details so that we can send invitations to the celebration party.

Are perhaps someone with knowledge of trivia concerning Yattendon. A couple of years ago I had a walk around the village and came across an old blacksmith/farrier building with a broken window, opposite the Royal Oak, probably the low building on the left of the top image here

The window had obviously been broken for some time. I googled at the time for history of the smithy and found a story about some family dispute between brothers , perhaps 150 years ago, and neither would repair the pane. And like the wonky "0" on the door to Number 10 Downing St, has remained like it to this day (equally silly story). But now I cannot find reference to the Yattendon window story or even the Smith.

I can confirm W Berks Brewery beer regularly gets to my local in Southampton
