Why do phrases like this always make me think of immigrants getting beaten up, yobbos marauding through the streets waving flags, and a sub-committee planning to torch the local mosque?
There'll also be a special red beer from Bryson's of Heysham, for anyone in this area.

Some people like to spread that sort of misleading view about anything "English" (whatever that may mean), seemingly to try to kill it off. Given that the English are such a mongrel mix, it strikes me as odd when people say marking "Englishness" is racist - is it suposedly racism in favour of the partly Roman-descended English, the Scandinavian English, the [insert part of Commonwealth] English, or the Outer Mongolian English?
An African/Middle eastern bloke with links to Georgia and a religion from Italy is hardly a shining example for an English Nazi :-)
I get the impression that trying to "invent" a St George's day event is partly Charles Wells and other companies hoping to do for England what Guinness has done for Ireland. They can try to profit from an attitude that if other places can do this sort of thing without being accused of racism, England should be able to as well.
