Champion Beer of Brittain

Triple fff Alton's pride apparently.

Must admit I've never heard of it.

I'm absolutely thrilled that Beckstones Black Dog Freddy came 2nd overall and won gold for milds.

It's a glorious drink, brewed 4 miles away from the fabled Prince of Wales, Foxfield. Another good reason for a pilgrimage, for those who haven't been!! Several fab pubs and two breweries close together, with accommodation and good public transport for those who don't walk far!

You are unlikely to get many chances of tasting this, unless you come up here, as it is only a tiny brewery; Dave can sell all he can brew. His Leat is gorgeous, too, as are all of his other beers, but Leat is my favourite. He doesn't use recipes or measures - he designs!!

They're the people who brew "Pressed Rat and Warthog" mild, which must've featured in that acrimonious thread about beer names.

Presumably a mild with a creamy head

I don't think so... Is there a joke I've missed?

Paul, no offence, but you need to get out more ! Its been available for many years, had a good presence at a bundle of beer festivals, and has actually won bronze (3rd) prize in the bitter category at the Great British Beer festival twice in recent years. The same brewery have also won champion "best bitter" and "mild" categories around 2002 or so, so no stranger to quality. I think the Pride has improved since they expanded their brewing facility - not usually something that happens with increased volume....!
