You may have heard on the news this week about two sailors missing in the Solway Firth. They were sailing from Silloth to Maryport, about
16 miles down the coast, on Monday, and never arrived.Very sadly, one of them was Peter Yates, former head brewer of Jennings, and in 1986, the founder of Yates' Brewery at Westnewton, the first microbrewery in Cumbria.
Real ale drinkers in Cumbria are shocked and saddened, and his community in Allonby are devastated.
