Griffin Inn - Warwickshire

A tip in case anyone gets lost finding this pub (like me yesterday). Annoyed GBG is so reticent on its location, but this is the first instance I have come across where a postcode leads you astray. The pub says GBG is correct with B46 2LB, but website planners direct you to centre of Shustoke and The Plough Inn. But the postcode of that pub is B46 2AN and inputting that to planners gets you to virtually the same spot as B46 2LB. Just to confuse further, streetmap.co.uk gets in wrong, except if you go via the link for Griffin Inn on the BITE website, although that uses streetmap too, it does point to the correct point. The BITE link via Google gets it wrong though.

The Griffin Inn is NOT in Shustoke village, but is opposite the church in Church End. As the Church End brewery started here, you see from where it got its name. It isn't a huge distance from Shustoke, but if travelling by bus (Stagecoach 717 hourly Brum International - Coleshill - Nuneaton) the best stop is at the Bulls Head in Furnace End. Walk towards Shustoke (road has path) but note carefully the footpath branching off to left that goes by the church and to the pub. The 717 bus does in fact go by the pub, but it is on a hideously dangerous S bend and there's no bus stop (and why walkers need to take the path via the church rather than risk death on the busy road). The road is the B4114 and not as suggested by GBG.

Having found the pub it was well worth the effort - what an excellent place! One Griffin beer on, but Sarah Hughes Ruby Mild too and a good selection of other beers, including Jennings Mild.

The 717 bus also serves Ansley, where the bus stop at the roundabout is a couple of minutes walk to the Lord Nelson Inn and the Tunnel Brewery.
