The speech I heard also included the words "except expansion" That along with pretty pictures of large amounts of construction of new plant.

Or more widely available.

Often these two go hand in hand. A more widely distributed beer degrades in quality.

It may be that the beer becomes available to many outlets that are incapable of keeping a decent pint.

Like 'Shipstone's' and 'Home Ales' in Nottingham? Taken over with promises of continuing the brew but alas, soon afterwards were discontinued forever :-(

Fortunately, 'Star Ale' is now brewed by a former Shippo's brewer and is on sale in a few pubs around the Old Dalby area.

If that's the bitter, I was never impressed.

But the mild was superb!

Since it's a lager, your starting point seems wrong to begin with. Who knows where it'll go?

Not really the same kettle of fish at all. These were pub owning breweries, offering the opportunity for Greenalls (I think, in the case of Home?) to expand into a nearby area where they didn't really have a presence. Harveistoun is a name and know-how on some (presumably) great beer, not a large pub acquisition with the burdens of a duplicate brewing plant. Except it does have the latter after all...

A worthy winner of an award et this year's GBBF. The mild is also delightful. They are generally available in the old Shippo's heartland in the Radford area , I believe the Horse & Groom takes deliveries in 36s - rare for a micro. Brewery is Belvoir .

Ah, Shippo's mild - that brings back fond memories!

"Ivor Thirst for Shipstone's ales - all the best!" I remember a pub next to the Victoria station, quite close by the walk through, [name?] that had a neon man and the above slogan.

The Home Brewery had the following green and yellow slogans flashing on the brick tower:

"Home Ales" (Green) and "Home of the Best Ales" (Yellow).

I am told that the brewery has now been flattened and the space occupied by a hypermarket.

Point taken Simon.

For what it's worth, Shiehallion is a very good lager in my opinion.

I spoke to the brewer, Alan? or was it Adam? last year. I was to be in the Notts area for a couple of days and wanted to try his Star Ale. I ended up in the 'Navigation' in Normanton-on-Soar - and a fine little pub it was too! Plenty of choice and jolly bar staff made the evening most pleasant and memorable.
