Keswick

Did anyone go to Keswick BF?

I usually jump at the chance to go to that part of the world so a BF there was an appealing prospect but I couldn't make it.

Any good?

Do you like warm beer and a carp atmosphere? if so, you can;t beat Keswick. Including stuff labelled as one thing but actually another - because the sponsor thinks they have paid for product A and it didn't turn up so they labelled product B as product A

Always on the same weekend is the Wasdale Head Beer Festival (same branch) which we organise a bus to!!

And then the following weekend - this Sat - there is always the Boot Beer Festival - same branch. We go by mainline train then down the valley on the la'al Ratty (narrow gauge steam railway for 16 miles)

Sounds a bit fishy to me.

Were you there or not? If you were there and thought that was a crap atmosphere you have a freaky preference for what constitutes "atmosphere".

"because the sponsor thinks they have paid for product A and it didn't turn up so they labelled product B as product A" - your evidence?

It sounds to me that your post is a classic case of "it's not camra therefore it's crap" reasoning.

Ok, they struggled to keep the beer cool - but since when is that a problem camra events are immune from?

I was there and thought it was very good - a much better mix of attendees than the average camra "festival" - lighter in mood, good communicative service, families having a day out with picnics, lots of women and younger people etc.

It strikes me that because the word "camra" wasn't attached to it far more "normal" people attended. And that the prevelance of "normal" people is something you are uncomfortable with. (I admit that's a bit unfair, but so was the post I'm responding to).

Not this year, because of past experiences.

I prefer the more intimate and friendly beer festivals where people talk to each other - even total strangers - such as we get in the rest of Cumbria. Not those that are swamped by snooty, look-the-other-way, don't-catch-your-eye, out-of-towners.

I also don't like tin toilets. A far more unpleasant experience for women than men. I am the former and assume you are the latter. If you are female you will understand exactly why we don't like these.

I have no problem with non-camra beer festivals. I am attending one today - elsewhere in the Lake district - down Eskdale valley.

Rather a nice one this - you get on a 16-mile ride on a narrow gauge steam railway - full of social enthusiasts who talk to others and wave to others on passing trains, passing the glorious banks of massive wild rhododrendrons that plaster the entire route, spotting red squirrels and the occasional deer, then walk a few hundred yards to the village of Boot where three real ale pubs put on over 80 beers between them. And groups intermingle, banter as they walk from one to the other; the sun shines and the atmosphere is brilliant, especially when you keep bumping into the guest morris sides!

Now that is atmosphere!!!!
