I'm going to in Leeds all next week. Now perhaps Jury's Inn does stock a fabulous range of local microbreweries, but *just in case* I go down to the bar on the first night to be faced with international agribusiness lager on electric dispense, does anyone know a better place within walking distance?
Nearest decent place is the Palace, Kirkgate, LS2 7DJ, less than 10 minutes walk away; 10 or so ales and a bit of character. It's well worth venturing a little further though, to take in Whitelocks (National Inventory listed), the Scarbrough, perhaps Duck & Drake (closest to Palace) and the Grove. Also the Angel if you like Sam Smiths. BTW Yell has a wrong postcode for Jury's Inn, should be LS10 1NE
May be wise to use multimap to print out a map. I suggest a circular tour from Jury's:-
Grove LS11 5PL (right next to huge, tallest building around), 10 min walk from Jury's; Scarbrough LS1 5DY (near rail station) Whitelocks LS1 6HB (down alley off shopping precinct) Angel (down another alley from same precinct) Duck & Drake LS2 7DR Palace LS2 7DJ. All within about 5 minutes walk of each other.
As you have all week, maybe you could hop on a train to Dewsbury, (20 minutes on frequent service) to visit the Yorkshire CAMRA pub of the year (and runner up in National POTY) on platform 2, the West Riding Licensed Refreshment Rooms (and perhaps buy a T-shirt with the motto "I missed the train at Dewsbury") and while in the town take in the Shepherd's Boy (4 Ossett beers and 4 guests) and Leggers (7 ales plus a handpulled rotating cider or perry).
E-mail me at the coded address in my sig and I'll let you have my mobile number. A guided tour of the above hostelries can be arranged any night this week, other than tonight.
Although I might just get back to the West Riding before last orders tonight, if HLX ever get this flight sorted out. It should have left
10 minutes ago. No indication of how late it's going to be, no announcements, no staff in sight.
I think we'll have to agree to disagree. I've done Sheffield many times (usually focussing on the ones here

) but have never found the variety that exists in Huddersfield. A lot of the real ale pubs in Sheffield are a bit 'samey' - back street boozers, pleasant but dull.
Take the Station Tavern, Head of Steam, Grove and Rat & Ratchet, between them well over 30 real ales, and usually all different, and most of them constantly changing. And I've never had any quality problems in any.

Then within a few short miles, even for us wrong-sided yanks, you get to The Sair Inn and The Church Inn, both really great brew pubs. (The Church Inn also does nice sandwiches if you must eat while drinking.) I'm a believer. West Yorks is the place to go for real ales.
Sorry, where is the Church Inn and what beers does it sell/brew ?

Went there when touring Dovestone Resevoir. Some folks said it was in West Yorks, other folks said it was in Lancs. Don't know which to believe. Good brews and not all that far from Huddersfield and the "other" end of the canal tunnel.
It still is in the West Riding. The old ridings still exist and should not be confused with the new local authority administrative areas created in 1974.
Formerly in the West Riding, it was moved to Oldham Metropolitan Borough (part of Greater Manchester) in 1974. So it's never been in Lancashire - which was also emasculated, losing large chunks to Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Cumbria. Of course greater Manchester no longer exists.
