Merry Christmas

I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas with copious real ale.

Just one thought for the new year - let's see if we can revive this moribund group. It's so much better than the assorted beer forums available - well it could be anyhow!

Lurkers - rise to the challenge!

Oh yes, glad to be back as well.

We be coming over this Spring, staying mostly in Hawes, and wondering what the ale scene will be like in North Yorks around Easter.

Hoping for more of the darker stuff than we usually find.

What's the pub scene like these days around Hawes, Askrigg, and Leyburn. And is The Nook actually brewing in Holmfirth?? We will also be in Haworth for a few days. Hoping The Old Silent is still going well.

Probably more choice than ever before. A lot of new breweries opened, particularly in the Lake District, many of which find their way into Yorkshire.

Can't be explicit about Wensleydale, but Yes, the Nook is still brewing, as in Summer Wine brewery in Holmfirth.

Old Silent is very much still going and has actually made next year's Good Beer Guide. Do try the Waggon and Horses on the Hebden Bridge road out of Oxenhope. (although go no further - Hebden Bridge is dire these days)

We used to often visit the Waggon and Horses near Oxenhope, used to walk over from Haworth. In those days the landlord had a brewery in the garage and brewed some lovely ales.

Few years back we stopped in. There was a woman behind the bar, and all the beers were rather light, floral, with little to recommend them. As we will be in Haworth we will give it another go.

Most of our time we will be living in Hawes, with visits to the Lake District among others.

thanks

What kind of attitude is that? There’s always room for one more beer.

Oh, well, since you're offering - thanks very much

There's a lot to be said for that. I've just tried some Hardknott beer in (would you believe) the Knot in Manchester.

I think that brewery is destined for greater things.

The word pub was not in my posting, Midgehole club is open to members, their guests and CIU affiliates as far as I can see.

There are quite a few clubs in the GBG that say "show this guide or Camra membership to be signed in". Maybe they should be reported to some great authority too!

As for Moyles. Five different beers at reasonable prices, good variety, well kept, 20p off for CAMRA members, friendly staff and customers all a lot more important than the docor.

has pretty good recent reviews (one by me admittedly)

Think i'll go back to lurking.

Soooo ... wot's the deal on The Waggon and Hosses in Oxenhope lately??? Should we detour in that direction?? Are they brewing again?? Has the food got back to GOOD again?? Are there a few non-blonde ales on tap??

A waiting public wants to know.
